I love opening a new calendar each January. Every box on the page is just waiting to have the story of the new year written on it.

One year

Each one filled with possibility
A clean slate
Starting a New Blog
For me, 2025 is about renewal. I want to rediscover my creativity and find joy in the many facets of my life. What better time to start blogging again than at the beginning of a new year with renew as my word goal for the year.
After stepping away from blogging a few years ago, I’ve realized how much I miss sharing my passions and connecting with others.
I first started blogging in 2007 at Blessings Overflowing (I no longer own this domain name. 🙁) when I was pregnant with my fourth child. At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom with three little ones, eight years old and under, with another on the way. Blogging became an outlet, a place to share my creative endeavors as well as the chaos and beauty of raising a young family.
Before that season of my life, I was a teacher. I graduated from college in 1996 and spent the next six years teaching elementary school. When I gave birth to my second child, I chose to stay home to raise my children. For the next fifteen years, and the addition of three more kids, I dedicated myself to my family and my home while also working a few different at-home jobs such as an embroidery business and a website design business.
Then in 2017, when my oldest child started college and my youngest was in the first grade, I returned to the classroom. This time around, I am teaching 7th and 8th grade language arts at my alma mater.
Teenagers often get a bad rap, but I truly enjoy this age group. They’re full of energy, and they keep me on my toes. However, getting in front of twenty-five young teenagers each day isn’t for the faint of heart. It is equal parts humbling, frustrating, and amazing.
What to Expect from This Blog
Tall Teacher Mama is where I will blend the past and the present:
- Practical, family-friendly recipes that fit a busy life, including gluten-free and dairy-free options
- DIY sewing and crochet projects to spark creativity
- Reflections on teaching and parenting with honesty and a little humor thrown in for good measure
- Stories of my faith that will hopefully provide encouragement
This blog will be a space where I can share, reflect, and connect. I hope it becomes a source of inspiration for you, too.
Whether you’re a fellow teacher, a parent, a DIY enthusiast, or someone navigating a new season of life, I’d love to have you join me.
Jackie
